If you caught any of my Seven Steps to Stellar Solopreneurship Success (I paraphrase the precise title of this pillar post on account of me being far too lazy) you’ll know how much gravitas I place on your ability to find people to work with on new projects.
Did you hear me?! GO FIND YOURSELF A BUZZED BUDDY!
I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to find someone, right now, who you admire and believe in. And then start plotting world domination. Pull back a bit, and go and do something that will knock your pants off and swing your socks. Or thereabouts.
The five:
- What do you want to do today? Sponsored by Microsoft.
- How could it be even better if you were multi-handed (beyond two)?
- What skill do you need? What talent are you lacking (ditch the pride)?
- Who do you know to fill in the gaps?
- What’s stopping you?
Here’s what I’d do if you work largely in a silo. And by silo, I’m talking either in a sorry little emotionless cubicle in a sorrier, bigger enterprise, or in your home office kicking the desk and throwing back your brain-infested head looking for ideas or nary an inspiration:
Think wildly. Go buddy up with your buzzing pal and get some practice by working on some low-hanging projects to test each other out.
You need – starting tomorrow – based on hopes and dreams to be working collaboratively. Ditch the notion that working in teams is prohibitive and sapping. That’s what they want you to think.
There’s this notion in the world of big companies that you have to fight your own battles, that if you don’t you’re weak, unable. That’s bollocks. The ingenue who came up with that crafty concept belongs in hell and frankly has no place in today’s society. Like those rotten bastard circus trainers who hit bears on the legs to make them stand upright. That’s who these stupid, stinky corporate crushers are – circus trainers with big sticks. Hate them. Loathe them. Then breathe deeply and move on.
And find yourself a project where you can work together with another. Crank up the fun. Indulge in your super talents. Share others. And grow.
It’s amazing what you can achieve when you do things with other people. Incredible.
Absolutely smashing. But more about that, later.
Who’s your buzzed buddy and what are you working on together?
