Castle Rock Brewery – makers of Harvest Pale, 2010′s Champion Beer of Britain according to last month’s GBBF elite tasting panel – wants £5,000 of your hard-earned.
It’s not another uber-pricey beer, all ghey silver wrapping or bagged in the stomach of a stuffed stoat.
For your 5k you’ll get a 1/120th share of a city centre community pub.
Ingenius idea, even if reporting of the opportunity needed a few more brain cells.
“A limited company is to be created, offering 120 shares at £5,000 each to raise the money needed to buy and redevelop the unnamed site.”
The Publican goes on to say…
The brewer’s chairman, Chris Holmes, told the newspaper that he hopes to start work on the former British Legion venue over the next six weeks.
Maybe it’s the journalistic genes, but I’m guessing if Castle Rock really wanted to keep schtum on the secret establishment they might have chosen not to leak that the pile of bricks was once home to Tony Blair’s favourite crowd. Or maybe they didn’t, and the hack forgot to ask the address.
In any case, £5,000 is a lot of money these days. It always was. You could buy 25 of these all grain starter equipment kits for that.
But I think Castle Rock have to be applauded for a sterling effort to inspire the nation to be more involved in the publican trade. What I don’t understand is what the brewery is putting in itself. I quote:
The Castle Rock Brewery is looking to raise £600,000 via an Enterprise Investment Scheme in order to complete the programme, the Publican reports. A limited company is to be created, offering 120 shares at £5,000 each to raise the money needed to buy and redevelop the unnamed site.
In any case – if you’re going to have a crack at this, drop me a line. Alternatively, do we have 5,000 beer fans who can spare a quid?
