I saw someone posting in the name of Chris Evans on Facebook mention Radio 2 had some new jingles out.
What I didn’t expect – but what you know now, unless you’re reading this on an iPhone or iPad, in which case you’ll be very much in the dark because the Beeb only provides a Flash-based embed option – is just how much work goes into creating a world-class jingle.
The amount of effort in a single jingle (gotta use that again somewhere) at this level is astounding. That world-class musicians like Beverley Knight, and Claire Teale (amazing radio show she has in her own right, too) are drafted in alongside orchestral maestros shows how much prestige the Beeb places on its stingers and bumpers to make its shows sound polished and incredibly professional.
I think when we sit on this side of the broadcasting fence we expect stuff like this as standard but rarely consider just how much time it takes to be that good. As you know I’ve always been the biggest fan of radio but this makes my heart flip knowing that in the age when everyone looks to video that it’s what comes in our ears that gives us the greatest joy.
