Modern media marketing matters

The secret to successful blogging is…

Repetition, and repetition, and repetition… And being amazing.

It’s easier than you could ever imagine…

You know what your problem is? Your perceived limits. They’re perceived because they’re not actual. Your limits are fictional – and you have far more to offer than you could ever dream of.

That’s the thing, see. In life, we restrict and constrain our abilities. In dreams, we should package these away in the back of our mind and reach beyond the skies. Yet because we overanalyse and denigrate ourselves during the awake phase, we stultify ourselves even in dreams.

And if you can’t dream about how amazing you are…

Look through the ages. Imagination was rife. Imagination was… Everywhere! Today the internet is omnipresent, and I believe the internet is partly responsible for the demise in mind power.

We’re spoonfed everything we need. We read everything we want to know – in a heartbeat. Why the hell do we need to unlock the power of our dreams, when compared to the struggles and strains of civilisation even a decade ago, living is a dream itself?

So you have to stretch yourself. Constantly. We need to reject this idea that each one of us is an island. If you went all Buddhist we’d say that every one of us is intimately interconnected; that we’re simply the ebb and flow of the universe.

How do you open your mind? You take your head on a daily adventure. Whether it’s visualisation – simply daydreaming about things you want – or learning, through reading widely and talking to as many people who inspire you as possible, you can soon regiment (in a lovely way) yourself in the realisation you’re incredible.

Repetition. And scale it up. Start every day with 10 minutes of opening your mind. In a fortnight, 20 minutes. In a fortnight, half an hour. 12 weeks after you’ve started, you’ll be luxuriating in more than an hour daily at the mind gym.

That’s exactly what it is – stretching your brain cells.

Dave: what the hell has this got to do with effective blogging?

“Everything.”

Only when you open your mind can you truly begin to understand your life’s purpose. You’ll discover things that you always promised to do, that you’re awesome at.

And it’s these things that form the foundation for successful blogging.

You hear all about finding your niche. It’s true – otherwise, why would people invest their time in you?

Generic is boring. You’re exactly the opposite. You have a skill, talent, expertise. You probably forgot what this was, years ago. With an open mind this’ll come flooding back, I guarantee it.

When I started along the path of my 10 for 10 odyssey I had no idea where it would take me. But I’d decided to haul my appallingly lazy arse down the metaphorical road of illumination and self-realisation. I’m not an exceptional writer – but I have a passion for the pixels.

Every day, I taxed my head to find new and relatively stimulating subjects and arguments to share with you. Brain biscuits, if you will.

Slowly, so slowly a snail would choke with laughter, I started to find a plan bubbling up inside me. I realised, after weeks of trying, that what I wanted was to develop practical ideas to help others. I ain’t no Madre Teresa. I just love visioneering, as people put it, and that for me involves finding solutions to problems you probably didn’t even know you had.

Becoming a blogger is easy. It takes patience, memory recall of your strengths, and one more thing…

Guest posts.

That comes once you’re settled in your niche. Millions of blogs, few of which survive past the one-year mark. Those that do, crave shockingly good content. Relevant content. And you can provide it!

Make connections. Get yourself to Technorati and find blogs that evangelise in your area of expertise. Read, lurk, comment. Then approach the Blog Prince and ask probing questions about their style. Show authority and show interest and I have no doubt your skills will shine through to such an extent that you’ll be snapped up.

It’s a labour of love to get started but by reading through all this character-based carnage, you’re already 90% there.

Open your mind, and open the door to a new and exciting way to express yourself and – maybe – gaining recognition as a thought leader. The rewards, whatever you’re seeking, are destined to follow.
